In and Out of the Cups

It’s been a little while since we updated the 1896BULLDOGS blog with Ton Pentre having played two matches in that time.

The first game saw the Bulldogs beat Dinas Powys of Welsh League Division Two in the First Round of the FAW Welsh Cup.

It was quite a good game as Dinas Powys created some excellent chances to score but a man of the match performance from Jonathan Howe denied them and Ton eventually won the game 3-1.

Prior to that game both teams took part in Show Racism the Red Card’s Fortnight of Action which the 1896BULLDOGS fully supported.

In their last match the Bulldogs lost 2-0 at Monmouth Town in the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup.

Not many Ton fans were able to make the trip but those that headed east witnessed a good game. Both teams looked to play football but overall Deano’s men deserved to win that made the defeat harder to take.

It was such a good display from the team and was a joy to watch us playing some lovely sleek football.

It could have all been so different had Jaymie Wearn’s goal just after half-time stood instead of being incorrectly ruled off side by the assistant referee. The match report on www.tonpentreafc.com accurately describes the incident. It really could have turned the game.

Despite the loss, the 1896BULLDOGS are happy that out of the two cups it is the Welsh Cup that we progressed in. It’d be great to have a run in that this season.

We now look towards Friday’s plum Welsh League Division One match as Cambrian & Clydach Vale come to Ynys Park. You can’t beat a Rhondda Derby and we’re sure there’ll be a bumper crowd.

Ton are certainly the underdogs for this but you never know…

UP THE BULLDOGS!
